Presenting with 2D layer in 3D space – In today’s lesson I learned how to present a 2D layer in a 3D space. We had a project ready to use in the exercise files so I open that up and it shows a 3D animations of these stained glass. When working in a 3D space you want to work on layer by layer basis. We can look at the transform properties and make sure they’re there and to convert a 2D shape you want to click on the cube icon above the shape properties. We can see the transform properties have changed a but there’s now a z value where you can change the scale size. There’s also 3 values instead of one and something called Orientation. When you do changes to it you can see on the tope of the composition panel 3D render and it will let you render your project and there is 3 ways you can render you video. There is Classic 3D, CINEMA 4D, Ray-traced 3D (deprecated) (I will use the Classic 3D for my project but it depends on what you’re doing your project) To make it easier to see what’s gonna be the final product for your 3D project you want to change the camera angle and you can do that by clicking where it says active camera and click the drop down menu and top view now all the layers that I’m working on are all into one spot. You can change the x and y axis changing where the shape goes. You can change the view of the camera by using a tool on top which is called the United Camera tool, you can change that by clicking on it and it give you many options . Depending which view you want to use and benefits you for your project.
- Jan 22, 2015 The ray-traced 3D renderer in After Effects is built using the OptiX library from Nvidia, which depends on Nvidia’s CUDA technology. However, this should not be interpreted to mean that we are opposed to OpenCL. Quite the opposite.
- Join Ian Robinson for an in-depth discussion in this video, Exploring the ray-traced 3D renderer, part of After Effects CC 2013 Essential Training.
Regardless, in the video, I aim to be comprehensive in addressing the whole ray tracing pipeline on both architectures, covering off a range of effects. Ray traced shadows are tested in Call of. With After Effects CC, the industry-standard motion graphics and visual effects software, you can take any idea and make it move. You can start a fire or make it rain.
3D text in after effects is not to hard to do, Plus I'll give you 3 different ways to do it (4 if you have adobe after effects CS6). I also show the shatter.

Presenting the After Effects Camera – Today i learned about the After Effects camera, the camera can provide many options for the different camera views. This especially help when you’re doing a project and you need to check how your 3D project is going. Not only that it provides you with different views of it from the top, left, right , front and and you can have multiple views so if you need to see it from 2 different angles you can do that. All of these options are on the top of the timeline and the after effects camera to activate it you go to the camera icon on the tool option and you can click on it depending on what you need (A shortcut for it is just pressing C).

Working with lights – In today’s lesson I learned about working with lights and when it comes to working with lights there is four that we are able to use. First I’m setting up a small project with a grid and the stained glass and after I set that up I’m going to add a light to do that you go to the context menu >new and light. Now you have a menu where you can adjust the properties of lights. There’s 4 lights which are Spot, Parallel, Point, and Ambient, for mine I’m going to be using ambient (since it has the least properties.) But it just overlays any color light over my project.

Changing Layer Material OptionsProperties – In today’s lesson I learned about changing layer material option properties. I started with a project I had earlier and I added a point light to it (Which it’s like a gradient and you can cast a shadow to it). You can use the material options to modify your 3D project and add anything you need to it. For this project I’m applying light as I learned in the last video and I learned how to add a shadow to the layer I had under and fix the light so it could create the the effect I want.
Controlling a camera with a Null Object – Today’s lesson I learned about controlling a camera with a null object. Now this can add movement to the camera when you’re working on after effects. To able to do this I’m going to use separate dimensions what this is, it allows you to revolve the camera around a point. To make the camera move in the times you want it to move you need to add keyframes to the time line. Which is pretty neat you can change the direction of the camera with just changing the keyframe. With the null object this allows you change the properties of the camera itself and it can make the movement shaper or smoother. This will give the impression of a real camera movements because the options are limitless you can create a dolly type of movement or pan to any direction you want.
Using Separate Dimensions to Control a Camera – In today’s lesson I learned about using separate dimensions to control a camera. This correlates to the lessons that is above with controlling the cameras, but today we’re gong to talk more about the keyframes. Why are they important? Well that’s because they provide the stop points of every movement that you’re going to make in your 3D project. Without them you wouldn’t be create different positions of the camera of rotations, which it key when you’re moving the camera in after effects. Now there’s a cool effect that will let create depth in you camera, just like an actual camera. We want it to look more realistically and add focus to the main point when we are filming, to be able to do that you press the period key a couple of time and hold the spacebar and this will let you adjust the focus (You can pin the stain glass which is what we’re using and make the background a bit blurry since it’s not that important. )You want to make sure you add a keyframe to your timeline and make sure you add another keyframe when you change the focus distance.
